Alvaro Morata makes a bizarre claim over his Chelsea future that is sure to anger fans

Chelsea fans are still undecided on Alvaro Morata and his recent comments over hinting about a move back to Real Madrid in the future.

It is not the first time the 25-year-old has made a comment that suggests he is not particularly happy in London, saying back in October ahead of the Roma Champions League clash: “I really miss Italy. My wife would like to live in Spain; I’d like to live in Italy.”

And in a recent interview with a Spanish football programme Espacio Reservado, journalist Julio Maldonado asked the Spain international: “If tomorrow they call you from Madrid, do you go straight back or would you have to think about it?”

Morata said: “I have to respect Chelsea who have made a great effort for me. And I’m very happy here. But Madrid is always Madrid.”

The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker made a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge, with a hat-trick at Stoke City and getting towards the top of the Premier League top scorers list.

However, Morata has not scored since Boxing Day and is suffering from a back injury that his boss, Antonio Conte, admitted he is not sure how long it will take the forward to recover.

“We are talking a lot about bad results, but sometimes we forget we are facing a serious situation,” Conte said. “Players like Morata, for us, are very important and have been missing for a long period of time.

“I don’t know how long he will be out. We are struggling a lot to find a solution to solve the pain in his back. If you ask me whether he needs a day, a month or the rest of the season, I don’t know.

“I don’t know. For this reason, I’m a bit worried. You know very well the importance of the player.”
