Real Madrid Shock claim made over Barcelona star Lionel Messi

LIONEL MESSI ‘always wanted to play at Real Madrid’, claims Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda

Lionel Messi first arrived at Barcelona as a teenager in 2001 from his native Argentina.

The talented forward made a name for himself at Barcelona’s youth academy and 17 years later the Argentine is the club’s record goalscorer.

But things could have been very different had Messi supposedly followed his ‘dream’.

Inda claims when Messi first came over to Spain, Messi wanted to play in the capital and Real Madrid’s former sporting director Jorge Valdarno had attempted to sign him.

He always wanted to play at Real Madrid,” Inda said.

“Moreover, in 2002 he was about to be signed. Valdano tried, but could not and went to Barca.”

But even if Inda’s claims are true, it seems Messi has been vindicated in his decision to stay in Catalonia.

Messi has since won nine La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and the Ballon d’Or five times.

And it seems the 30-year-old has no plans to leave the Nou Camp anytime soon.

“I am not tempted to leave Barcelona,” he said in a recent interview.

“I won’t find anywhere better than this for me. It’s the best team in the world.

“Every year I am fighting to win everyone. I don’t need to go anywhere to prove anything.”

Messi and co have one more La Liga game to play this weekend against Real Sociedad before his attention turns to the World Cup with Argentina.
